Racing Wheels
One of the last categories, within the massive wheel industry, to consider is the racing wheel industry. Unlike the custom wheels, black wheels, and other categories, the racing wheels are chosen on the physics and function of the tires. The ease of removal in the pit, and the speed of the tires on the track are the only two qualifying statistics. Since speed is the name of the game, racing slick tires are used that are also larger than the normal tires.
Because racing wheels play into such a highly competitive sport, the overall look and feel of the tire is irrelevant. Function is the primary aspect that the racing team is after, and for that reason sponsors have become highly response to the needs of individual racers on individual tracks. Racing tire manufacturers will create a specific tire for a specific track with optimal temperature ranges so that the car can excel for that race. The high returns for winning a race mean that the individual racer will be well compensated for the race, and that the sponsor will achieve a maximum amount of visibility for their professional grade product. Lastly, the actual wheels, as opposed to the tires, are minimally visible with the tires taking up a lot of rubber space within the frame of the car, and the functionality of the wheel being the primary factor. For that priority set, it is no wonder that the racing wheels have remained a factor of limited interest from the wheel engineers. Since NASCAR has one of the highest fan retention rates, and has continually had the most loyal fans out of many of the venues, it is no wonder that racing is such a highly branded industry.
